Google IO 2018: Android P, Google Lens and more - Updates from Developer Keynote



Google IO 2018 is Happening right now, and here our some of the things we scooped from this year's Google IO:

Here are the list of things we know so far:


The Main Star for this Year's Google Conference was the:

1. Android P Developer Preview 2

Google seems to not reveal the official name of Android P today but we expect that they will show the new features of Android P Developer Preview 2.  

The New Android P features:

  • Quick Settings
  • Volume Controls
  • Better Screenshots
  • Rotation Confirmation
  • Work Profiles
  • Status Bar
  • Crash Dialogs
Digital Wellbeing



The new Updated do not disturb feature let's you stop being disturbed by turning off the vibrations, making the phone silent while receiving notifications by just flipping the phone face down. 

The Wind Down feature automatically sets your phone to Grayscale mode to keep you from using your phone for long during sleep time. It helps eliminate the blue light that is said to be keeping you from being asleep when using the phone in the night.

2. New Improvements for Google Assistant
Google Assistant now have a lot new more functionalities and constantly improving from time to time. This Time, Google assistant can now order you food, make you a reservations without talking to the restaurant clerks. The Google Assistant AI will handle that for you.

  
Conversational Assistant meaning that you don't have to say "Ok google" Every time, google will continue listening to your commands even after your first command was responded already.


3. Google Lens will soon be available for other Android Phones 


Google Lens was announced that it will soon be available to any other Android devices other than google branded phones such as the Pixel 2 and XL.


Google Lens now integrates google search for quick more information about the texts captured 


Students will surely love this feature, Google Lens now allows you to Copy and Paste Text straight right from the book to your Phone!











Not only Google Lens can read texts, it can       
also identify other things such as animals,
building facades and more!

3. Android P Beta 

Google Announced that Android P Beta will be available starting today for Google and 7 Other Android Phone Manufacturers such as Nokia, VIVO, Oneplus, Xiaomi, Sony, Oppo etc.

4.  Self-Driving Cars: (Waymo)



Waymo offers a service similar to lyft, but the difference is, Your Driver is not present in the car! 

John Krafcik (CEO of Waymo) announced that they recently had their early rider program/ Public Test where Public got the chance to ride the Driverless car around the road.


Waymo is Confident for the Self Driving system because of the Deep Learning Technique which said to be able to reduce 100x in error rate. 

John Krafcik also added that Soon, Everyone will be able to call waymo using their App and a full self driving car will arrive to their Destination.
