This 1$ DIY Gadget will turn your Macbook Touchscreen

Apple aren't known for making Touchscreen Enabled MacBooks until this date, They are still sticking with a Touchscreen less MacBook but Apple have made something  that they call Touchbar, which most of the Macbook users found useless at most times.

That's why a tech enthusiast like Anish Athalye ( a PhD student at MIT), turned a MacBook into a touchscreen using only $1 of hardware and a little bit of computer vision.

The Prototype was named as "Project Sistine" it was named after their recreation of the famous painting in the Sistine Chapel. The prototype was done by Anish and with his Friends such as  Kevin, Logan and Guillermo in less than a day

The good thing is that you don't need to be an electrician or solder/disassemble anything from your MacBook.

To do this, all you need is a Door hinge, some hot glue and a small curved mirror that is mounted at a specified angle in order for the Macbook's Built-in webcam to see the screen below

For this gadget to work, you need the customized version of ShinyTouch app developed by Kevin Kwok, An app that was made due to the fact that Laptop screens are reflective when looking from an extreme side angle, it allows the App to know when a finger is making contact or only hovering with the display.

With the Use of Image processing procedures and very firm calibrations, the software can track whether a finger is touching the screen, or where it's being placed. That movements translates into an on-screen interactions that can let you swipe through your photos, draw on the screen or tap buttons.

Could this Gadget do the Touchscreen Feature in your MacBook very well? No, not as of the moment but considering the Fact that this Project was made in less than a day, There are still time for Improvement on this thing.

But if you don't want to DIY, we have found a Perfect alternative for this thing and it's called the AirBar

The Airbar doesn't only work with MacBooks, it Works with Windows too!

Airbar has different sizes that are suited for most of the Common Screen Sizes starting from 13 to 15.6 inch screens. You also don't need a Software for this thing to work. Just plug it in your laptop and it will work.

You can buy Airbar here starting from 75$
